PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa has received a principal decision on the construction of a nuclear power plant

PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa has received a principal decision issued by the Ministry of Climate and Environment regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant in Konin region. The decision of the Ministry of Culture and Environment enables the commencement of works in the indicated location and is a confirmation of the compliance of the planned investment with the objectives of the Polish energy policy.

The application submitted by PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa contained the most important information regarding the planned power plant built using proven and safe APR1400 technology. According to the plan, the two reactors with a total installed capacity of 2800 MW will provide 22 TWh of energy per year, which corresponds to 12% of the current electricity demand in Poland.

Energy security is the basis for the functioning of the state, and in the face of the challenges related to the energy transition, only nuclear energy can provide a firm and stable foundation in the coming years. Not only in terms of access to cheap and clean energy, but also in terms of the broadly understood economic development of the country. The implementation of the project that PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa wants to implement together with the Korean side in Pątnów fits perfectly into the government's plans in this area. The adoption of the principal decision for that project confirms this. Therefore, I hope that the further implementation of this project will neither be stopped nor prevented by anything," said Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin.

The principal decision is crucial for the implementation of the construction of the nuclear power plant and allows us to move on to the next stages of the investment. We received it in less than 13 months from signing the letter of intent. In the case of such a large investment, this is a very good result. It is also a proof of the commitment and good cooperation of all partners in the project and a confirmation that the ambitious plan to launch the first unit of the power plant by 2035 is very realistic, said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. The power plant will provide consumers with cheap and clean energy, and Poland, together with renewable energy sources, the energy security and independence," adds Wojciech Dąbrowski

I am glad that, thanks to obtaining the principal decision, we will be able to continue work on the project for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Konin/Pątnów. This investment is an opportunity for Poland, the region and, above all, for us Poles – because nuclear energy is stable, clean and cheap energy for Polish families and companies for the next several decades," said Zygmunt Solorz, the main shareholder of ZE PAK and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa.

The decision of the Ministry of Climate and Environment allows PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa to move to the next stage of the investment, which includes, i.a. environmental and location studies, preparation of a feasibility study for the project and continuation of talks on the financing of the investment.

PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa SA is a special purpose vehicle of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and ZE PAK, which will participate in the construction of the nuclear power plant in Konin/Pątnów in Wielkopolska. PGE and ZE PAK each hold 50 percent of shares in PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa, which allows to preserve and secure the interest of the State Treasury in this project. PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa SA represents the Polish side at all stages of the project, including the implementation of location and environmental studies, obtaining financing and preparing a detailed investment schedule together with the Korean side, as well as in the subsequent stages of obtaining permits and administrative decisions.
