Contract for the purchase of an electrolyser for the production of ''green'' hydrogen
On April 9, Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin SA signed a contract with Hydrogenics Corporation. The contract concerns the purchase of an electrolyser for hydrogen production.
Hydrogenics Corporation is a global leader in the design and manufacture of solutions for the industrial and commercial production of hydrogen. The company has the latest technologies and very rich experience in the design and manufacture of installations for the production of hydrogen also using energy from renewable sources. The installation will be located at Konin power plant and the biomass block will be the source of energy supplying the electrolyser.
The implemented project will use PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technology, which means that the produced hydrogen will be created without harmful by-products. Hydrogen is an excellent source of energy, among others for transport (cars, buses, railways). Hydrogen is also an excellent energy storage - it can be produced e.g. from surplus energy from renewable sources. It can be transported to any place or used when photovoltaic cells and windmills operate with reduced efficiency due to adverse weather. Many agglomerations already use hydrogen as an energy source for transport and store it in case the city needs to cover increased energy demand.
The solutions used by Hydrogenics will allow ZE PAK not only to produce "green" hydrogen, but also to store and increase its production by simply "adding" more electrolysers - depending on the demand and the rate of evolution of the economy towards low-carbon. Thus, ZE PAK will join the group of pioneers in the production of hydrogen by electrolysis, which already has Austrian, German, Japanese and Australian plants.
