The end of production at Elektrownia Adamów
By the decision of the European Commission, at the beginning of January 2018 Elektrownia Adamów, being a part of Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin SA was excluded from the National Power System, the last operating block of the power plant was shut down on January 1, at 2:49. Five power units with a capacity of 120 MW each have completed more than fifty years of their life.
The Power Plant was producing electricity for the need of National Power System, as well as it was supplying the heat to local customers.
Elekrtownia Adamów used a derogation from the IED Environmental Directive in the scope of 17.5 thousand working hours beginning from January 1, 2016. Efforts were made to extend the operation of the power plant until the depletion of local lignite deposits.
Synchronization of the first unit at Elektrownia Adamów with the national grid took place in October 1964. The fifth unit (the last one) was started in September 1966.
During the 53 years of operation at Elektrownia Adamów:
- Nearly 163 million MWh of electricity was produced,
- Nearly 30 million GJ of thermal energy were produced,
- About 213 million Mg of indicator coal was burned,
- In total, the units worked about 1,570,000 hours.
